Assemblies urged to distinguish between resources and revenue mobilisation

The Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA) has organised a sensitization of Non-State Actors including civil society organisations and traditional authorities on the local Governance Act ( Act 936) and the revised Planning and Budgeting guidelines for Metropolitan, Municipal Districts Assembly MMDA’S with the called on Assemblies to distinguish between resources and revenue mobilisation.

According to the resource personnel, Dr Eric Oduro Osae assemblies ought to devise strategies to mobilise resources from the corporate organisations within their catchment communities to enhance developmental projects.

He said instead of the assemblies mobilising for resources; they always mobilise monies from people in the community.

Dr.Osae, therefore, urged the Assemblies to seek corporate social responsibilities of the local organisations on time to meet their budget.

He further called for the change in write up of all local governance laws to be drawn up in other local languages to suit the communities.

Adding that the purpose of the local government laws is almost defeated because of lack of understanding of the terms involved.

The local governance expert called on the Sunyani municipal assembly to understand indicators of metropolitan assembly and strife to achieve it.
