Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC equipment officer -Thomas Obeng Asare – has been killed in a road accident involving the club’s team bus at Nkawkaw when the team was returning to Kumasi following a midweek Premier League game in Accra.
A number of the players and members of the technical team including British head coach Steve Polack sustained injuries with the head coach suffering a leg fracture.
Meanwhile three players – Felix Annan, Seth Opare and Yakubu Mohammed – remained in Accra after the game and so were the only ones that did not board the team bus to Kumasi.
The road misfortune happened after the Porcupine Warriors had lost a Week 22 League game against Inter Allies, a game played at the El-Wak sports stadium in Accra on Wednesday.
Asante Kotoko is scheduled to take on fierce rivals Accra Hearts of Oak this Sunday at the Baba Yara stadium on the occasion of Week 23 of the Ghanaian football championship, but now this would reasonably be postponed to a later date.
Metro FM Sports and the entire Metro FM family thoughts are with Asante Kotoko in this difficult time.
