The Chief of Assin Dansame, a farming community in the Central Region, Okufo Twum Berima V on Monday June 26, 2017 did the unthinkable when he ordered thugs to exhume the remains of a body that had been buried at the cemetery.
His action followed failure by family of the deceased, Kofi Emmanuel to adhere to his directive not to bury him in the area until they have resolved all outstanding issues at his palace including a fine that was yet to be paid by the deceased.
The chief claims the family usurped his authority by going ahead to bury him without following the due processes as he demanded, insisting that he was justified in directing his boys to exhume the decomposing body.
According to Okofo Twum Barima V, the deceased whilst alive, failed to take part in communal labour and since he was the chief and owner of the land in question, he demanded the bereaved family to exhume the body that had been buried.
Our reporter, Professor Elisha Sarpong told the host of Ayehu program on Metro fm Krobea Nana Yaw Asante that the deceased who is a member of the Asona family had been slapped with a fine for his refusal to attend communal labour but did not settle his indebtedness before his death.
Though members of Asona family described the claim by the Chief as false insisting that they have the right to bury their kinsman on the land, he dared them.
The mortal remains of Koo Emma as he is affectionately called was latter buried after the intervention of the police.
