Former CAF winners to attend AITEO CAF awards in Accra


All the former Legends of the African Player of the Year awards since its commencement by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 1992 are expected to attend the Aiteo CAF Gala awards 2017 edition.

The awards night which has been scheduled to take place in Accra has been dated to happen on Thursday January 4 2018 at the Accra International Conference Center.

Starting from the winner of the maiden edition in 1992 Abedi Pele to Riyad Mahrez, who was crowned in 2016, all the legends who represent various generations will be given prominence at the event designed to celebrate the key stakeholders of African football.

The Nigerian trio, Emmanuel Amuneke, Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba, the Cameroonian four-time champion Samuel Eto’o Fils and Patrick Mboma are expected to grace the occasion.

The Ivorian star Yaya Toure and the four time winner Didier Drogba as well as El Hadji Diouf of Senengal have not been left out of the invitation.

George Weah of Liberia,Mustapha Hadji of Morocco, Frederic Kanoute and Emmanuel Adebayor of Togo are also among the rest.

Not forgetting the women football, previous Queens of African football have also been mentioned for the biggest assemblage of football stakeholders.

The invitees list has not been limited to only previous winners but also to other players and officials whose contributions towards the progress of the African football were not sidelined.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Salah of Egypt, Aubameyang of Gabon and Sadio Mane of Senegal are the shortlisted names for the prestigious African Player of the Year award.

The trio, Asisat Oshola of Nigeria, Chrestina Kgatlana of South Africa and Gabrielle Onuguene of Cameroon have been left to compete for Women’s Player of the Year.
