Metro FM Sports – The numbers behind Black Stars’ 2018 WC failure

0 – the number of home games Ghana did not win. Ghana did not collect three points in front of Ghanaian fans making the failure the more dispiriting. The Black Stars started the qualification series with a 0-0 home draw against Uganda in Tamale when Avram Grant was in charge. The next home game was played in Kumasi and the Kwesi Appiah’s team failed to win as Congo picked a shocking point and finally during last Sunday, Ghana drew to already-qualified Egypt in Cape Coast 1-1. Ghana, Congo,  Gabon and Algeria hold this bad record of not winning a home game in the CAF qualification tournament. If Burkina Faso fail to beat Cape Verde on Tuesday, they will join this unwanted list.

1– The number of game Black Stars won and that came away at Brazzaville with the Stars winning big , 5-1 against the Congolese.

4– The number of drawn games – against Uganda back to back, against Congo and Egypt at home.

5 – The number of goals conceded.

7– The number of goals scored by the Black Stars.

10 – The number of World Cup tournaments Ghana has competed but failed to qualify – 1962, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1986, 1990, 1994, 1998, 2002, 2018.

3– The number of players that scored the Ghana goals in the qualification series. Thomas Partey, Richmond Boakye-Yiadom and Edwin Gyasi.
