NHIS crippled from take-off point – Prof. Badu Akosah

A former Director General of the Ghana Health Service Professor Agyemang Badu Akosah says, the challenges and indebtedness of the National health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is as a result of the poor take off of the program.

He said, in most develop juridictions, health insurance is only accessible in the public health facilities and prescription of medicine are limited to non branded medicines.

A system he claim has sustained the the UK health insurance scheme.

According to him, any citizen who wish to access private health care must be in the position to pay for such services.

Speaking at the 15th Annual General Meeting of the Medical Superintendent Group in Koforidua, professor Agyemang Badu Akosah also cautioned Doctors to feel the pains of their patients and threat them with care.

He then again spoke about patients to Doctor ratio in the country, he described it as a very worrying situation. And has to be tackle immediately.

President of the Medical Superintendent Group Dr. Kwame Ofori Boadu complained about some deductions from their internally generated funds which inhibit development in the health care delivering system. He spoke Metro fm correspondent Rev.Afrifa Alexander Kwabena.
