Late Paapa Yankson

The one-week celebration of the late Highlife legend Paapa Kofi Yankson is set for Friday, August 4, 2017.

The son of the recently deceased Highlife legend, Paapa Yankson confirmed to Metro FM Journalist Ronald Kyeremateng that, the celebration of life and passing of the high life legend would come off at Dansoman Keep fit club in Accra.

The son also suggested and pleaded to the government to offer his father a state burial for his contribution to Ghana music industry and also saving the highlife genre in Ghana as he took the music beyond the coastlines of our country.

Sallasie Yankson in an interview with Ronald Kyeremateng also refuted the claim that his friends abandoned his father during his sick time as speculated in the social media.

“A lot of musicians will be available at my dad’s one-week celebration”. He added.

Paapa Yankson passed away in the early hours on Friday at age 73 after being sick for some time and has performed in his last few public events in a wheelchair.

Wiase Mu Nsem, Show Your Love, Wo Yere Anaa Wo Maame, and Tena Menkyen, all among his hit songs he composed before his death.

Paapa Yankson hit song Yaaba won an award for Best Composition during the Komkomba Awards in 1997.

Paapa Yankson has over 15 albums to his credit, and it is not surprising that some young hiplife artistes keep knocking at his door to feature him on their albums. He has taught and performed in many countries around the world including the US, Canada, Belgium, Britain, Germany, Holland, Nigeria, Benin and Cote d’Ivoire.
