Real Madrid president Florentino Perez hasn’t spoken to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo as transfers rumors continue to pick up steam, but he is confident that the player isn’t going anywhere.
“An offer hasn’t arrived and what we think is Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player and he is going to continue,” Perez said on a radio interview in Spain according to Marca.
Perez said Ronaldo is bothered by the way some media ‘treat him like a criminal,’ adding that he is honorable, professional and more. Now, it’s not a surprise that an offer hasn’t come in. A transfer for Ronaldo would smash the world-record transfer free of $116 million that Manchester United paid Juventus for Paul Pogba last summer, and it’s not an offer you quickly make.
Perez and Ronaldo have a good relationship so even if Ronaldo wants to leave, a post Confederations Cup chat with Perez could calm things down, potentially getting the player to recommit to a club where he has won three Champions League crowns, including the last two.
It is still too early to tell if Ronaldo will leave, but it feels more likely that he will stay. The transfer window closes at the end of August, so there is still plenty time remaining. But Perez, even with his overly calm demeanor, seems confident that the player will continue in the Spanish capital. And for Real fans, that’s a good sign.
