The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Asewase Constituency, Hon. Alhaji Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has stated that the Minority will soon start the process of impeaching the Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye for not allowing democracy to prevail in the chamber.

He said this after the Minority stage a walk out to protest the speaker’s decision to refer a motion for a rescission of the $510m AMERI power deal to the Parliamentary select committee on mines and Energy for Consideration.

The Majority caucus booed, shooed and chanted away, away, away as the NDC MP’s fled out of the chamber in anger and frustration.

Minutes before the walk out, the Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu was seen furiously gesticulating at his opposite member after the Speaker had shot down his objections to a motion on the AMERI deal.

The Asawase legislator argued that the Speaker is not fair when it comes to debating on a motions table before them in the house. He However said the twice former Dome-Kwabenya legislator Rt. Hon. Prof. Mike Oquaye should know better rather than trying to create chaos in the house, and they will not allow it to happen in any case the Majority will have their say as well as the Minority on any issue.

According to him, the Speaker needs to be transparent and fair when it comes to his decision making and allow everyone to make his or her submission without intimidation or humiliation Meanwhile the Minority will soon start the impeachment process if he continues doing that because they don’t want this style of leadership to continue.

Meanwhile his colleague MP for Nhyiaeso Hon. Kennedy Kankam described the Minority’s position as “contemptuous” and said it’s unfortunate how they want to talk to the Speaker because clearly, it is against their standing orders.
